Storing Colostrum AKA Liquid Gold

Did you manage to store any colostrum when you were pregnant?

Or are you in early pregnancy right now and have no clue what I am talking about?

Ahhhhh you just wait….we are talking about milking yourself.

You heard me….milking yourself.

This is one of the most bizarre things a female has to do, but it is also so rewarding.

Women begin to produce colostrum from 16 weeks onwards however often you are discouraged from starting to collect colostrum until much later in pregnancy.

In some cases, collecting colostrum can bring on labour so you have to be incredibly careful and ensure you have gained advice from your healthcare professionals.

Also I highly advise getting a breastfeeding consultant to support you in showing how to do it for the first time because it can be tricky to begin with.

I started storing colostrum from 36 weeks and managed to get a bit stored which I was so proud of. This helped us a lot because when Arabella was born she was so little so being able to feed her my colostrum in those first few days whilst waiting for my milk to come in was really special.

If you are currently storing or getting ready to do this, I truly wish you all the best.

It is really strange but also beautiful to see yet another amazing trait of the female body.
